There are snowdrops popping up all around town so we’re fairly certain that spring is right around the corner.
Here are some of our favourite things to do in the Cotswolds this springtime.
Search for Bluebells
There is nothing more synonymous with spring than a carpet of gorgeous bluebells and here are some of the best places to spot them.
• Foxholes Nature Reserve, south of Kingham
• Woodchester Park, near Stroud
• Leckhampton Hill, near Cheltenham
• Dover’s Hill, near Chipping Campden
Wild Swimming
Get back to nature with a spot of wild swimming this spring. Known for its health benefits and a chance to appreciate the local surroundings, some popular spots are.
• River Windrush, near Minster Lovell Hall
• Buscot Weir, near Lechlade
• The Lakes at Cotswold Water Park
Coo over the Easter Chicks
For a complete overload of fluffy cuteness, head to Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water where dozens of incubated eggs are due to hatch over the Easter period. If that’s not enough, the park also has hundreds of penguins, flamingoes, parrots and pelicans to view.
The Cheltenham Festival
We couldn’t miss mentioning the absolute highlight of the spring calendar here in Cheltenham. One of the biggest events in the horse-racing calendar, the Cheltenham Festival takes place here from 12th-15th March. Culminating in the famous Gold Cup on Friday, the week is full of excitement with Ladies’ Day on Wednesday and St Patrick’s Day on Thursday.
The action may be on the race course, but the fun and celebrational atmosphere is present throughout the town with pop up bars, racing breakfasts and special music nights to enjoy.
